			<content:encoded><![CDATA[The GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel invites applications for a
<b>Research Fellow</b>
in the research unit Marine Biogeochemical Modelling of research division Marine Biogeochemistry. 
We are looking for candidates with a strong interest in marine biogeochemical cycles and/or ecological processes and their interaction with the global climate system. Possible research areas include the sensitivity of marine carbon and nitrogen cycles to past and expected future environmental change, the development of new ecological and biogeochemical models, and the application of data assimilation and uncertainty-analysis methods. We expect the successful candidate to develop her/his own research profile and to participate in proposal writing to further support the group.
Candidates must have a university degree in a natural sciences subject and very good knowledge in earth system modelling or a related field. 
The position is limited to 3 years, an extension by 3 more years is possible. Salary and social benefits are according to Germany’s public sector TVöD 13 scale. Part-time employment is possible.

Within the framework of the research programme SACUS (Southwest African Coastal Upwelling System and Benguela Niños), funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in Germany (BMBF), we seek to fill the position of&nbsp;&nbsp; 
<div class="indent"><div class="indent">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<b>Research Scientist (Postdoc)</b></div></div>
by July 1st 2013.
<b>Duties: <br /></b>The successful applicant will conduct independent research within the subproject 1 “Connectivity of the southeast Atlantic coastal upwelling system to the equatorial current system” including participation on research cruises, analysis of shipboard, moored, and glider observations as well as remote-sensing data and model output. In particular, the project is based on a mooring array along 11°S off Angola and yearly research cruises. Presentations of the results to SACUS partners and at international conferences, participation on summer schools, and publication in peer-reviewed journals are expected.
<b>Your profile: <br /></b>A suitable candidate holds a PhD in Physical Oceanography or a related field and has an adequate publication and presentation record. Expertise in data and model analysis is a prerequisite; knowledge in modern ocean observation techniques is welcome. The ability to work within the GEOMAR team and with our German and African SACUS partners is expected.
The position is initially limited to a 3-year employment.<br />The salary depends on qualification and could be up to the class 13 TVöD-Bund of the German tariff for public employees. This is a full-time position with a 39 hour work week.

<span lang="EN-GB">in the research unit “Magmatic and Hydrothermal Systems” of the research division “Dynamics of the Ocean Floor”.</span>
<span lang="EN-GB">A broad range of research relevant to the dynamics of the ocean floor can be supported. Topics may include multi-phase simulations of submarine hydrothermal systems, coupling between crustal accretion and hydrothermal convection models, and studies of the effects of sea level changes on mantle melting and volcanism. The focus will be on fundamental questions that integrate models and data and have the potential to advance our understanding of how the ocean floor evolves and what its role is within the Earth System.</span>

Job Description / Duties
<ul><li>Performing routine measurements on a plasma-mass-spectrometer (MC-ICP-MS) including the use of a laser ablation system</li><li>Quality assurance (data reduction, sample documentation, data archiving)</li><li>Responsible for lab safety, machine maintenance and repair</li><li>Implementation of new analytical routines for the MC-ICP-MS</li><li>Contribution to method development and system optimization</li></ul>
Qualification
<ul><li>Degree in chemical engineering or equivalent skills</li><li>Advanced knowledge of quantitative instrumental analysis</li><li>Experience in thermal ionisation (TIMS) and multi-collector-plasma-mass-spectrometry (MC-ICP-MS)</li><li>Good spoken and written English</li></ul>
This is a full-time position for a single candidate.
Salary will be based according to the German public sector salary scheme E 10 (TVöD).
This is an offer for a permanent position. The salary depends on qualification and could be up to the class E 10 (TVöD)-Bund of the German tariff for public employees.
