A1 – Detection and Monitoring of Gas Hydrate Deposits

Sub-project A1 develops improved hydro-acoustic and chemical
sensors for the detection of methane and CO2 in the water
column. These tools are employed to localize and explore new
offshore gas hydrate deposits. Later, in the stage of gas hydrate
exploitation these sensor packages are deployed to monitor
the gas production process in order to very sensitively detect
potential leakages. The water column imaging technique of L-3
ELAC Nautik will be optimized to quantify emitted gas volumes
automatically and the chemical sensors of CONTROS will be
integrated into flexible and robust monitoring platforms.
