Meramex

Merapi Amphibious Experiment

Subproject of the joint research project SUNDAARCk

Project period: 01.04.2004-30.06.2007

Proponents: Dr. Heidrun Kopp, Dr. Ernst Flüh

Sponsored by: DFG-BMBF Sonderprogramm Geotechnologien - Kontinentränder I

The project shall contribute to a better understanding of the potential for natural hazards of the Java subduction zone.

Three wide-angle profiles (P16 - P19), an onshore/offshore network of (OBS-) seismometers, and gravimetric/magnetic investigations shall help to decipher the 3D sub-bottom structure of the subduction zone and the connections to the high-risk volcanism of the Merapi volcano.
