HOSST pools the complementary expertise of the Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel (GEOMAR), the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU), the Dalhousie University and the Halifax Marine Research Institute (HMRI).
Both Kiel and Halifax are active centers for the development and testing of new in-situ observing technologies.
The School will provide opportunities for its young researchers to become exposed to this broad variety of state-of-the-art technology, through the use of the technologies for their thesis projects where appropriate and useful, and through demonstrations. A special emphasis will be organization of interactions and visits with private sector companies, in both Kiel and Halifax that are involved in development and commercialization of ocean technology.
