Hygiene and safety rules in the GEOMAR Library


For your protection, your stay at the GEOMAR Library is subject to security measures based on the GEOMAR framework hygiene concept in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. We ask for your understanding that we cannot grant access to the building in the event of non-compliance or reserve the right to issue a building reprimand.

The library is open to all employees and students who are allowed to enter GEOMAR as part of their studies.
Other external users can make an appointment to use the library - please contact the relevant branch library.

Access to the library

• The library may only be entered with a mouth-nose protectionor an FFP2 mask.

• When entering the library, please disinfect your hands with the disinfectants provided.

• When entering the library, a 3-G identification must be presented to the library staff. The current 3-G certificates are checked when a valid photo or student ID (if not known personally) is presented at the same time via:

o Digital vaccination certificates

o Vaccination cards

o Test certificate of a negative antigen rapid test of a medical practice or a test center. This is valid for max. 24 hours.

o Test certificate of a negative PCR test of a medical practice or a test center. This is valid for max. 48 hours.

o Individuals who provide a physician's statement indicating that you are not eligible to be vaccinated must also provide a negative rapid antigen test or PCR test.
Individuals who are unable to wear a mouth-nose protection or FFP2 mask for health reasons must provide proof of this with a certificate.

o If the 3-G proof is not provided, entry is prohibited.




Stay in the library

• Please always wear your mouth-nose protection or your FFP2 mask and keep the required safety distance of at least 1.5 meters to other visitors.

• Please observe the coughing and sneezing etiquette.

Leaving the library

• Please maintain the required safety distances of at least 1.5 meters.

General cleaning

Prior to the library opening, all tables in the open stacks area will be cleaned and disinfected. The cleaning of the surfaces of the individual workstations is carried out by the library staff.


The library is aired regularly. There is also a CO2 meter available on the west bank, and there is an air conditioning system on the east bank.
