Public Key Infrastructure GEOMAR

The GEOMAR datacenter runs an own certification authority (CA) in the DFN PKI hierarchy. A public key infrastructure (PKI) is a hierarchical ordered organisation to generate trust for the users of the internet. By the certification a CA attestes an individuel or a server that these digital expression of an individual or server is really connected to a physical individiual or server.

Since the operation of a CA is technically and organisationally quite elaborate GEOMAR has outsourced its CA to the DFN society (more accurately the DFN-PKI).

Therefore you will be redirected to our outsourced CA page when applying for a certificate.

Internally at GEOMAR we operate the subscriber service for our CA. This subscriber service receives the application forms for certificates and checks the identity of the applicant.

The policy which regulates the work of the GEOMAR CA is published on the outsourced web pages of our CA.

Instructions on how to generate certificate requests, who to send the request and more are detailed on our internal PKI page.
