Earthquake seismology is concerned with the analysis of local seismic earthquake recordings using offshore and onshore stations in order to better understand geodynamic and tectonic processes. Further interests involve offshore geodetic methods in order to resolve strain on the seafloor using networks of autonomous acoustic transponders. Data analyses include, but are not limited to, earthquake detection and location methods, local tomography and moment tensor inversion. Areas of concentration have included investigations of faulting within subducting slabs, in particular the Chilean and Sumatran margins. The common trend in the overall program is the quantitative analysis of seismic waves to improve our understanding of solid Earth's dynamic processes with focus on marine regions.
