Career discussions between postdocs and scientific managers form the basis for trustful cooperation and identify possible optimization needs and also problem areas.
The discussions are intended to contribute to postdoc satisfaction. To achieve this, both postdocs and managers must get involved in the discussion and use it as an instrument.
The documents for the interview are provided by PACT. They contain a reflection sheet to prepare for the interview, an interview guide and instructions on giving and taking feedback.
An essential aspect of the career talks is that the talks are confidential and that the minutes are kept by both parties to remind them of the interview. The report to PACT, which is to be prepared by superiors, only contains information on how the interview took place, but not on the content.
Training sessions on conducting appraisal interviews, appreciative communication and the feedback culture are conducted regularly and also on-demand.
Further education and training courses, which can be attended at the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel, are free of charge for GEOMAR professors.
