subject to project approval starting on February 1st 2020. The position is temporary for 36 months and offers the possibility to attain a doctoral degree in natural sciences.

Job Description / Project Description

The candidate is expected to develop an activity-based screen for identifying CO2 reducing enzymes from metagenomic fosmid libraries and describing them. This will include the following tasks:

  • DNA isolation from marine environmental samples and construction of fosmid libraries
  • Development of an assay for detecting recombinant CO2 reducing enzymes
  • Identification of genes encoding the respective enzyme activity
  • Biochemical characterization of the CO2 reducing enzymes
  • Involvement in publishing the scientific results in international journals and presenting findings at conferences

Qualification

  •  master degree of natural sciences/ medicine or equivalent enabling the candidate to perform above mentioned tasks
  • sound knowledge of molecular biological and/or biochemical methods
  • sound knowledge of the English language
  • ability for analytical thinking, drive and team ability

Experience with DNA extraction, construction of fosmid and transposon libraries as well as carbon monoxide dehydrogenases is an advantage.

The salary depends on qualification and could be up to the class E13 TVöD-Bund of the German tariff for public employees. This is a part-time position according to 75 % of a full-time equivalent. The position cannot be split. Flexible working time models are possible in principle.
