Research Interests

  • Biometric and econometric modeling (including numerical optimization, experi-mental design)
  • Statistical ecology (including climate effect and shiftogram analyzes)
  • Ecological informatics
  • Population dynamics (demography)
  • Management of wild fish stocks
  • Development of a network of stationary, portable and mobile UFO units (UFO = un-derwater fish observatory) with heterogeneous connection to other external plat-forms (among others GEOMAR, MARNET, COSYNA; 2 patents)

     

Education

Study of biology (focus on fishery / marine biology), informatics, statistics and econometrics at Christian Albrechts University in Kiel (CAU Kiel) and the Institute of Oceanography (IfM) in Kiel: diploma 1987, doctorate 1992. Afterwards habilitation 2001 at Rostock University in zoology and habilitation 2006 at CAU Kiel in fishery biology.

  • Scientist at the Institute of Marine Research (IfM, now GEOMAR) Kiel
  • Systems analyst at the software company has program service GmbH in Hamburg
  • Scientist of the Federal Research Centre (Institute for Baltic Sea Fisheries) in Rostock
  • In parallel lecturer in zoology at the University of Rostock
  • Professor of Fisheries Oceanography at the University of Massachusetts (UMass), USA
  • Honorary Professorship (2006 awarded by the University of Massachusetts, USA)
