Support for PIs

All our employees are competent specialists in their respective fields. At GEOMAR, we place particular emphasis on developing the employability of our employees and promoting their individual development. 

Career discussions between postdocs and scientific managers form the basis for trustful cooperation and identify possible optimization needs and problem areas at an early stage.

They should contribute to the satisfaction of the postdoc.  For this to succeed, both postdocs and managers must get involved in the discussion and use it as an instrument.

Guidelines for the career talks are provided by PACT. They contain a reflection sheet to prepare for the interview, an interview guide and instructions on giving and taking feedback.

An important aspect of the career talks is that the talks are confidential and that the minutes are kept in a safe place to remind both parties. The report to PACT to be prepared subsequently by the supervisors only contains information on how the interview took place, but not on the content.

Training courses on conducting appraisal interviews, appreciative communication and the feedback culture are held regularly and also on-demand.

Further education and training courses that can be attended at the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel are free of charge for GEOMAR professors.
