WG Observational Chemical Oceanography

Cape Verde Ocean Observatory A time-series station in the open tropical Atlantic Ocean that was established in 2006 and is based on a multidisciplinary mooring and a monthly sampling program run with the Cape Verdean vessel Islandia.

 Integrated Carbon Observation System – a pan-European Research Infrastructure which provides harmonized and high precision scientific data on carbon cycle and greenhouse gas budgets and perturbations. We are operating two ocean stations as part of the German contribution to ICOS: the Cape Verde Ocean Observatory and a “Voluntary Observing Ship” Line across the sub-polar North Atlantic (Europe – North America) more

 AtlantOS – a large European project with the vision to improve and innovate Atlantic observing by using the Framework of Ocean Observing to obtain an international, more sustainable, more efficient, more integrated, and fit-for-purpose system. In cooperation with the sensor company KM Contros we contribute to four work packages by development and field testing of new technology (oxygen optode, pCO2 optode, autonomous underway alkalinity titration system).

 C-CASCADES – a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network that focusses on the transfer of carbon between land and ocean at planetary scale and the consequences for atmospheric CO2 and climate. In cooperation with the sensor company KM Contros we contribute a flow-through sensor package for CO2, CH4, O2, temperature and salinity for use on autonomous platforms.
