“Navigating Transformation: The Role and Responsibility of Science”

Humans are a sense-making species whose unique capacity to observe, reflect, anticipate and communicate enabled it to become the steward not only of its own fate but that of planet Earth. They are transformers, as the concept of the Anthropocene brings to the fore. The crucial question today is thus not if there will be a socio-ecological transformation that science helps to bring about, but whether science can help the already ongoing transformations to find a direction towards socio-ecological regeneration and sustainability. This raises questions about the role and responsibility of science that I would like to introduce conceptually before drawing out some lessons learnt in the Scientists4Future network that I would like to discuss.
