High Ranking for Marine Biologists

Scientific Advisory Board of GEOMAR reviewed Research Division Marine Ecology

26 April 2019 / Kiel. Last week (25thand 26thApril 2019), the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) of GEOMAR met to review the strategy and planning of research and future perspectives at the institute and subsequently the SAB issued recommendations. This year's meeting mainly focused on Research Division 3 "Marine Ecology". The international review panel congratulated the scientist of the Research Division for their excellent research with particular emphasis on the outstanding embedding of the topic 'adaptation' in the work of the entire Research Division.

The Scientific Advisory Board of GEOMAR was represented by the following members: Prof. Dr. Catherine Boyen (Biologique de Roscoff station, France), Prof. Dr. Véronique Garçon (Laboratoire d'Etudes en Geophysique et Oceanographie Spatiales, France), Prof. Dr. Bruce Gemmell (University of Tasmania, Australia), Prof. Dr. Bärbel Hönisch (Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University, USA), Prof. Dr. Susan Humphris (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, USA); Prof. Dr. Jochem Marotzke (Chair, Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, Germany), Prof. Dr. Jeanine Olsen (University of Groningen, The Netherlands), Prof. Dr. Adina Paytan (University of California, USA), Prof. Dr. Sabrina Speich (Ecole Normale Superieure, France), Prof. Dr. Anne-Marie Treguier (IFREMER, France). For this year's meeting, Prof. Dr. Martin Grosell (University of Miami, USA, Prof. Dr. Helmut Hillebrand (Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg, Germany) and Prof. Dr. Monika Rhein (University of Bremen, Germany) supported the SAB as additional experts.

Five members of the SAB, including the chair, Jochem Marotzke, will adjourn from the SAB after this year's meeting and five new members will be appointed by the end of the year.

 

GEOMAR Director Prof. Dr. Peter Herzig thanked the outgoing members for many years of support and their always very constructive recommendations, which are of particular importance for the further development of the research centre.
