GEOMAR auf der Kieler Woche 2026

Discover the Ocean in a Playful Way

The "Schlaumachwiese"  (get smart meadow ;-) is located right on the Kiellinie, next to the seal pool and the GEOMAR Aquarium. For Kiel Week 2026, many partners from the fields of sustainability, environmental protection, and climate action will transform this wonderful spot into a large adventure playground. Together, they’ll put together a rich program: discover the ocean in a playful way, make puppets from recycled materials, or dive into the world of media at the Open Channel and go live on air. Tips and tricks on topics like zero waste and fair trade will be available, as well as information on energy efficiency and climate protection, plus funding programs from the state capital of Kiel.

GEOMAR will also be participating at the Schlaumachwiese:

June 23, 2–6 p.m.: Presentation of the GEOMAR Interreg project RECOVER
- Experience plankton live with the Planktoscope
- Learn about food chains through hands-on activities

June 27–28: Presentation of the GEOMAR project sail4oxygen
Sailing for science – Using a compact probe, crews measure oxygen levels, salinity, temperature, and depth during their voyages, providing scientists with data that would otherwise be impossible to collect.

June 20-28, Mon–Fri 2–6 pm / Sat–Sun 12–6 pm: MUNIMAR information stand
Together with MEKUN, the MUNIMAR project will have an information stand on the Schlaumachwiese. You can find comprehensive information on the topic of 'munitions in the sea' there.

June 21, 1-2pm and June 28, 2-3pm: Science Slam
On Sundays, teams from GEOMAR's munitions projects will give talks on the topic of munitions in the sea as part of the Science Slam at the Open Channel.
