Scientific Advisory Board evaluates Research Department 1

22 April 2015 / Kiel. With around 160 employees, the Research Department 1, "Ocean Circulation and Climate Dynamics" is one of the largest units of GEOMAR. At the same time, it covers a very broad spectrum of scientific activity: from the observation of ocean currents and investigations in the atmosphere, to climate and ocean modeling and reconstruction of climate history. During this week’s annual meeting, the Scientific Advisory Board of GEOMAR took a close look at the activities of RD1. To this end, a committee of 12 internationally renowned scientists attended lectures and poster sessions on current results and future projects of the department. A particular focus of the panel of experts was also on interviews and discussions with young scientists and researchers. At the end of two rather busy and labor-intensive days, the Advisory Board rated the work of RD1 as “excellent” and also recognized an equally excellent positioning for future scientific challenges.
