KIMOCC
The KIMOCC ('Kiel Marine Organism Culture Centre') is the central marine organism culture lab at GEOMAR. It provides access to modernly equipped climate culture rooms (chambers) as well as seawater for marine biological research. We develop, implement and publish state-of-the-art marine organism culture methods.
We serve marine research in Kiel by supporting complex experiments in the framework of the main topics of Global Change research.
KIMOCC helps conducting experiments with marine organisms like e.g. micro- or macroalgae, seagrass, ctenophores, cnidaria, starfish, (deep-sea) bivalves or fish.
Main foci of KIMOCC:
- acclimatization and adaptation of organisms to climate change
- interaction of microbial communities and multicellular organisms
KIMOCC provides:
- Administration and laboratory supervision of GEOMAR Climate Culture Rooms (Chambers)
- Safety briefings for work in Climate Culture Rooms (Chambers) and access control
- Development and implementation of state-of-the-art culture methods
- Advice of scientists and students in planning and conducting culture experiments
