GEOMAR Open Day 2026
Our World is the Ocean
On Sunday, August 30, GEOMAR will once again open its doors on the east bank, offering a behind-the-scenes look at ocean research from 11 am to 5 pm
Which questions about the oceans are researchers currently exploring? How do we investigate these questions? GEOMAR scientists will answer these questions and more during guided tours, at hands-on stations, information booths, and in lectures. Original deep-sea equipment at the Technology and Logistics Centre at GEOMAR offers a glimpse into the technology required to explore largely unknown ocean floors. Come and visit our new building, and enjoy the fjord view from our library. We look forward to your visit!
This event is part of the festival at the Kiel Seefischmarkt titled “Ahoi Ostufer: Fish, Research and Fun”. Please note that due to this large-scale event, there will be no parking available on the GEOMAR grounds. Please use public transport if possible. Additionally, the Schwentine ferry from the Reventlou pier is operating on a special schedule. Our recommendation: come by bike.
