International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea and GEOMAR foster cooperation

31 August 2017/Hamburg/Kiel.The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) and GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel will strengthen their cooperation. Therefore, the acting president of the ITLOS, Vladimir Golitsyn, and GEOMAR Director Prof. Dr. Peter Herzig today signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the ITLOS premises in Hamburg. "For example, the use of resources from the deep sea is an area that addresses the area of Geoscience as well as the Law of the Sea", says Prof. Dr. Peter Herzig. "Therefore we would like to strengthen the exchange between our institutes", Herzig continues.

After the signing ceremony of the MoU, Prof. Herzig toured the premises of ITLOS which is an official authority of the United Nations.
