Enabling Research, Project Management and Knowledge Transfer

The Marine Meteorology group at GEOMAR is supported by a team that contributes to research, teaching, and communication through coordination, project-related services, and knowledge transfer. These activities support the organization and implementation of research projects within the group.

One focus is the provision of research infrastructure. This includes coordinating access to computing time and storage at national computing centers such as the German Climate Computing Center (DKRZ) and other facilities, as well as supporting the use of laptops and workstations. The team also assists with setting up and maintaining software environments used in research and teaching.

The team is also involved in outreach, dissemination, and information management. This includes maintaining project and research group web pages, as well as the websites of the study programs Climate Physics and Physik des Erdsystems. Researchers also receive support in setting up personal GEOMAR web pages. In addition, the team maintains course catalogs and teaching information in OpenOLAT and UnivIS, provides guidance on their use, and supports assessment management in the Master’s program Climate Physics. Coordination of study-related matters is also part of this work.

Over the course of research projects, the team supports tasks related to project planning and implementation. This includes contributing to proposal writing, supporting the acquisition process, setting up administrative project structures, and establishing internal and external communication channels. During project implementation, milestones and deliverables are tracked, reporting processes are supported, and communication with funding agencies is coordinated. The team also organizes project meetings, workshops, and conferences.

The team further supports outreach and dissemination activities connected to research projects. This includes communicating project activities and results to the public and supporting publications. These activities contribute to the visibility of research projects and their results.
