Marine Hydrates

Within the TaiDrill and SUGAR projects we are actively working on the joint interpretation of electromagnetic and seismic datasets in gas hydrate regions. During the cruise MSM35 and SO227 we provided the electromagnetic data and interpretation by using our bi-polarization “Sputnik” dipole source in combination with OBEM receiver stations.

We utilize MeBo borehole data as ground truthing data and to couple rock physics and geophysics. To exploit the complementing sensitivities of electromagnetics and seismics, we utilize joint elastic/electric effective medium models to distinguish between gas and hydrate occurrence to achieve a better control on gas hydrate estimates within the seafloor.
