GEOMAR's knowledge transfer strengthens the exchange between science, society and policy. Through mutual exchange, research results are introduced into public discourse and decision-making processes on the one hand, and societal issues are taken up for scientific research on the other.

The acquisition of third-party funding for the realization of research ideas is an integral part of daily scientific work. GEOMAR is successful in attracting third-party funding from national and international sources. Third-party funds finance individual positions, cooperation projects, expeditions, international exchange and innovative infrastructure.
