KIMMCO addresses the question of how AI applications can be utilized to assess and improve the state of marine ecosystems. The project supports preserving and strengthening the ocean's natural CO₂ sink function and reducing the release of climate-relevant gases, such as CO₂ and methane, particularly in cases of poor ecological status. The project contributes to developing new action options and measures to strengthen natural climate protection.

KIMMCO is supported by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUKN) / Center for Environment and Society (ZUG) GmbH through the Natural Climate Protection – Coasts and Oceans program.
