Etna 2021: Mapping of the large-scale changes caused by highly active eruptive phase of the volcano in 2021

The campaign was performed in collaboration with INGV Catania and Wingcopter GmbH.

We were welcomed with a typical lava fountain from the Southeast Crater! Those fountains were observed frequently in 2021 and changed the face of the volcano significantly.
The weather conditions were challenging this year - the image shows the approaching front of clouds.
The German saying "Morgenstund hat Gold im Mund" (loosely translated: the early morning hours are golden) is especially true on Etna! Rising sun above the Mediterranean Sea and the Valle del Bove.
