The New GEOMAR Extension Building
A platform for marine sciences, unique in Europe, is being created on the site of the sea fish market on Kiel's eastern shore.
With the occupation of the new extension building from September 2023, a plan will become reality that was already laid out in 2004 when the then IFM-GEOMAR was founded from the Institute of Oceanography (IfM) on the west shore of the Kiel Fjord with the Geomar Research Center for Marine Geosciences on the east shore. Because even though the two previous locations were less than a nautical mile apart, the separation was not optimal for daily work. Get to know the new extension building in the film and learn more about milestones in the construction progress.
The new extension building on film
