SENSE

The SENSE project opens up new ways to assess and cost-effectively monitor CO2 injection projects in the onshore and offshore sectors. GEOMAR will lead the work package 1 and will be substantially involved in the development and application of new technologies. The overall goal of the project is the development and optimization of a method to determine the pore pressure changes caused by CO2 compression in the subsurface from surface deformation. So far, this is extremely expensive because it requires drilling and also provides only point information. The method developed in SENSE will have the advantage of full spatial coverage by significantly reduced costs. GEOMAR is responsible for the marine data collection in the project. This also includes the adaptation and further development of necessary monitoring instruments.
