July 2-6, 2018: 12th international OceanSITES meeting

OceanSITES is the worldwide system of long-term, deepwater reference stations measuring physical, biogeochemical and biological parameters from the seafloor to the air-sea interface.

The roots of OceanSITES go back to the year 1999 - since then, representatives from more than 30 countries have been working to optimize the observations- and thus the research potential of the more than 300 stations that are represented in OceanSITES. This organisational effort includes making data easier to discover and making it available in a stnadard format. But also to share costs and technical expertise.

OceanSITES is an integral part of the Global Ocean (GOOS) and the Global Climate (GCOS) observation system. The OceanSITES network complements satellite observations and observations with other measurement platforms such as gliders (OceanGliders), drifters (Argo), merchant ships (SOT) or research vessels (GO-SHIP).

The 12th meeting of the OceanSITES network with participants from all over the world takes place in Kiel.
