Greenland ice sheets melt rates have almost quadrupled over the past decades, delivering additional melt water into the fjords, and subsequently into the Greenland boundary current and potentially into the ocean interior. Additional freshwater input into the key regions of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation like the Labrador Sea could weaken the ventilation and thus influence the strength of the circulation. Up to now the spreading pathways of Greenland melt water are poorly known from observations nor is it known which fraction of the melt water leaves the boundary current and enters the convection region of the Labrador Sea. I will report on our first results.
