GAME 2027: Apply now!

Would you like to write your master's thesis on a marine ecology topic, complete the experimental phase in binational teams of two abroad, and receive comprehensive training in working as a scientist?

Then apply now to participate in GAME 2027. As part of the project, teams will conduct replicated experiments worldwide to investigate whether gender-specific differences in tolerance to abiotic stress can be demonstrated in marine invertebrates. Using meaningful response variables on the stress tolerance of male and female individuals of different mussel species, the aim is to find out whether and what differences there are in physiological performance between the two sexes.

Information on the process, participation requirements, and why GAME might be of interest to you can be found here.

If you are interested and registered at a German university, simply download the German application form, complete it and send it together with your resume and a letter of motivation, to our contact address: mlenz(at)geomar.de

GAME News

  • New name – same acronym

For 24 years, GAME has stood for excellent research and practical, research-based training for Master's students in biology and environmental sciences. However, the full name of the programme primarily described GAME's technical approach: Global Approach by Modular Experiments.

At the beginning of 2026, GAME gave itself a new name. GAME now stands for Global Approach in Marine Ecology. This change was initiated by the GAME Board of Trustees, which includes the founder of GAME, Prof. Dr. Martin Wahl. It is intended to reflect both the global character and the content focus of the programme in its name.
