The potential contribution from retreat of the Antarctic Ice Sheet remains the largest source of uncertainty in future sea level projections. This is caused in part by incomplete understanding of the processes governing ice sheet retreat and a lack of observational data to constrain ice sheet model physics. In this talk I’ll discuss efforts to use paleoclimate data to constrain ice sheet model physics from past warm intervals, the limitations of this approach, and ways of reducing uncertainty on paleoclimate and ultimately future sea level projections.
