Tether winch and cable

For operations in shallow water of up to 350m water depth, a tether cable may be used. During operations, the storage winch which is not equipped with an optical slip ring is used as a capstain.

  • electric motor (32 A)
  • 7 kN tractive force with  5-10 m/min; approx. 20 m/min when manually paying out the tether
  • drum dimensions: outer diameter 1600 mm, width 650 mm, minimum bending radius 450 mm
  • weight: approx. 700 kg

Tether cable:

  • manufacturer: Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke GmbH
  • 28 mm outer diameter; 500 m length
  • Aramid-armoured outer shell
  • neutrally buoyant in water
  • 3 copper wires (4160 VAC) @ 4 mm2
  • 3 optical fibres (single mode)
