GEOMAR has set itself the task of making the everyday work of its employees more sustainable so that every person in the office can make a contribution to climate protection. Team GEOMAR is active in numerous areas:

•   Participation in the annual city cycling event
•   Errands on campus with cargo bikes
•   Active participation in the Helmholtz Association's sustainability working group
•   Business trips within Kiel with company bikes
•   Little Lunch catering for the lunch break
•   Participation in events such as the “Open Day” with activities in the area of sustainability
•   Collection boxes for old cell phones at the center
•   Close cooperation with the Gender, Equality and Diversity team

GEOMAR’s sustainability strategy provides a strategic framework for the Center’s sustainability efforts. The mission statement includes GEOMAR’s vision, a mission, and values that describe the center’s understanding of sustainable development. The mission statement is supplemented by the climate goal of the state government of Schleswig-Holstein and the strategic goals of the Helmholtz Association from the Sustainability Guidelines, thereby forming GEOMAR’s sustainability strategy.
