Helmholtz Innovation Platform SOOP - Shaping an Ocean Of Possibilities

SOOP - Shaping an Ocean of Possibilities is a Helmholtz innovation platform that has been developing innovative solutions for ocean observation since March 2023. The three Helmholtz centres - GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) and the Helmholtz Centre Hereon - are working closely with partners from society, industry, science and politics.

The aim of SOOP is to establish sustainable ocean observation structures in the globally growing market of the New Blue Economy and to develop an innovation-driven market for ocean observation.

SOOP helps to raise awareness of climate protection by making oceanographic and climate-relevant data accessible. The collection, provision and use of ocean data is optimised through the development of standardised, cost-effective and user-friendly measurement systems and a powerful data platform.

Through innovation-based value creation, SOOP contributes to strengthening ocean observation and helps to close existing data gaps in cooperation with non-scientific stakeholders and the maritime industry. SOOP | Innovationsplattform
