Expedition POS511 was conducted between the 1st and the 22nd of April, 2017, leading us to the Christiana-Santorini volcanic complex.
Main objectives of the expedition were the documentation as well as the quantitative stratigraphic sampling of the submarine caldera walls, to better understand the initiation and evoltion of volcanism in the area. To achieve these goals, photogrammetric surveys and stratigraphically controlled sampling were conducted, using the ROV PHOCA.
During POS511, 21 scientific dives in water depths between 20 and 570m were accomplished.
