  • Experimental analysis of competition and herbivory in plankton and littoral communities, focussing on impacts on species dominance, coexistence and exclusion and on diversity.
  • Co-ordinator of the DFG priority program 1162 AQUASHIFT studying the response of aquatic ecosystems to climate change. Within AQUASHIFT, experimental analysis of the impact of winter warming on the spring succession of plankton communities.
  • Analysis of the trophic level of mesozooplankton in dependence on phytoplankton size structure and nutrient regime.
