Biographie
After graduating with an MSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Rostock, Germany, I earned a PhD in the field of Environmental and Marine Genomics from the University of East Anglia in Norwich, UK. During my PhD and initial postdoctoral research, I developed a great interest in science at the interface of genetics and biological oceanography. Awarded with a Marie Curie Interdisciplinary Fellowship as well as an Add-On Fellowship for Systems Biology, I was able to gain more than five years interdisciplinary postdoctoral research experience at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and Centre for Structural Systems Biology (CSSB) in Hamburg, Germany. Here, I applied systems biology approaches based on integrative bioinformatics, proteomics and molecular genetics that has led to several publications in international scientific journals, ranging from structural biology of bacterial membrane transporters to cell biology of human parasites.
Building upon my interdisciplinary research experience combining cellular and computational biology approaches my current research within the Ocean EcoSystems Biology unit at GEOMAR will aim to provide a mechanistic understanding of the factors that shape the growth, physiology and fate of globally abundant marine microalgae by integrating functional genomics with ocean field ecology.
