HOSST pools the complementary expertise of the Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel (GEOMAR), the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU), the Dalhousie University and the Institute for Ocean Research Enterprise (IORE)

Both Kiel and Halifax are active centers for the development and testing of new in-situ observing technologies.

The School will provide opportunities for its young researchers to become exposed to this broad variety of state-of-the-art technology, through the use of the technologies for their thesis projects where appropriate and useful, and through demonstrations. A special emphasis will be organization of interactions and visits with private sector companies, in both Kiel and Halifax that are involved in development and commercialization of ocean technology.

The HOSST transatlantic partner programm in Halifax, Canada is  TOSST.

Our partner program TOSST is currently also offering PhD-Fellowships. See their website for further information.
