Marine Mineralische Rohstoffe (MMR)

Unter marinen mineralischen Rohstoffen versteht man die Vorkommen metallischer Lagerstätte in den Meeren, die in naher Zukunft an ökonomischer Bedeutung gewinnen könnten. Ziel der Forschung in der Gruppe MMR am GEOMAR ist es, die Bildung dieser potenziellen Lagerstätten zu verstehen und die Erkundung des Meeresbodens voranzutreiben, um das Potential dieser Vorkommen abschätzen und deren Auftreten vorhersagen zu können. Forschungsschwerpunkte sind dabei die polymetallischen Massivsulfide, aber auch porphyrische und epithermale Kupfer-Gold-Lagerstätten. In unserer Forschung verfolgen wir dabei ein "Source-to-Sink" Konzept, in dem wir alle Faktoren, die zur Bildung mineralischer Rohstoffe beitragen, beleuchten.

Die Gruppe MMR ist Partner im kanadischen NSERC Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE)-Projekt "Marine Geodynamik und Georessourcen" (iMAGE) an der Universität Ottawa.
