  • Permanent access to the licensed volumes and back to 1997
  • Reading access for the entire e-journal portfolio of the Wiley publishing house including the previous volumes back to 1997
  • 20% discount on Article Processing Charges (APCs) for the publication in a Gold Open Access journal from Wiley
  • Eligibility for authors of participating institutions for Open Access publishing in hybrid journals: "Wiley OnlineOpen"

Please note:

When publishing in Wiley's Gold Open Access journals within the DEAL agreement, you or your department will still be required to pay the publisher's Article Processing Charges (APCs). Publication process for GEOMAR authors:

  • You are corresponding author with Affiliation GEOMAR and you submitted your article to a Wiley journal.
  • While submitting your article your will be made aware of the Open Access option and you can choose to publish open access or "opt-out" (in case you do not want to publish open access). When you choose open access the request will be automatically send to the GEOMAR Library to confirm your affiliation. As soon as that is done your article will be published open access.
  • The APCs for Open Access Publishing of research article and reviews in subscription (closed) journals (Hybrid Open Access) will be paid by the library due to the DEAL contract..
  • When publishing in Wiley Open Access journals you can apply to get co-financing from the GEOMAR Open Access Publication fund  [Intranet!].

Gold Open Access publication in a Wiley journal with DEAL

  1. Please use for communication with the publisher, for submitting the manuscript etc. the e-mail address of GEOMAR.
  2. Please select your institution as affiliation when submitting your manuscript through "ScholarOne" or "Editorial Manager". Please use the dropdown menu or the suggested affiliation.
  3. Within the scope of the DEAL agreement you will receive a 20 % discount on the APCs. Please select your institution's code from the List of Wiley Open Access Accounts during the submission process and enter it in the appropriate field of the payment section.

    When publishing in Wiley's Gold Open Access journals within the DEAL agreement, you or your department will still be required to pay the publisher's Article Processing Charges.   4. Choose a Creative Commons license during the confirmation process.
    We recommend the liberal license type CC BY,which grants the most ideal reuse possibilities in science without restricting your copyright in the work. More information about Creative Commons license types here: https://creativecommons.org/about/cclicenses/
  5. The information about the article will be forwarded to the library's dashboard for review and approval.
  6. The approval by the institution is automatically adopted and displayed in your Author Services Dashboard.

OnlineOpen publication in a Wiley subscription journal

  1. Please use for communication with the publisher, for submitting the manuscript etc. the GEOMAR e-mail address.
  2. Please select your institution as affiliation when submitting your manuscript through "ScholarOne" or "Editorial Manager". (Please make sure to use the dropdown menu or the suggested affiliation instead of just typing the affiliation yourself!).
  3. Upon acceptance of the manuscript for publication in a subscription journal from Wiley, please confirm the Open Access Option in the author dashboard with: Yes, make my article Open Access (see figure below). This option is always free of charge for our authors, as the fees (PAR fees) are paid centrally by the library.
  4. Choose a Creative Commons license during the confirmation process.
