PROFESSOR MULTANOVSKIY TRANSARKTIKA 2019 Leg 4

The State Research Center „Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute" (AARI) invited German scientists from the CATS project to participate in the expedition TRANSARKTIKA 2019. While Leg 1 of the expedition was carried out in March/April, including 12 CATS participants, Leg 4 starts on September 9, 2019, onboard the research vessel Professor Multanovskiy. The ship will sail from Murmansk along the Northern Sea Route to Bering Strait. Disembarkment is planned in Vladivostok on October 23, 2019.
16 CATS scientists from AARI, GEOMAR, AWI and the Universities of Moscow and Kiel participate in this expedition. Their research will focus on the current ecosystem changes and on the climate history since the last glacial period. It is planned to take long sediments cores in the East Siberian Sea for the first time.
