The aim of the expedition is to perform mutual sea trials of two autonomous underwater research vehicles, the manned submersible JAGO and the Hover-AUV Girona500, under open ocean conditions in structured terrain at water depths of up to 500 meter. The tight program of science-focused research cruises usually does not leave enough time for in- depth pilot and handling training and for testing of new technology integrated into the systems. This expedition therefore is mainly for those purposes, however, under similar conditions as during typical research cruises. The working area is around the Aeolian islands in the southern Tyrrhenian Sea.
